Failure to Launch!

Festive greetings! I hope everyone’s had a merry Christmas so far and are all set for the New Year ahead. For me it’s been fairly quiet, which has given me a chance to do some work on the blog and I’ve been writing reviews pretty much every day this week, with a few more still in the pipeline. Hopefully you’ll all enjoy those when I release them in 2022.

On to today’s business, it feels like forever since I’ve done a tag post so thanks to Yomu for including me in this fun little game. Games need rules though so let’s check those out first:

Rules

  1. Put the logo and rules in your post. – Done
  2. Thank whoever tagged you and link back to their post. – Done
  3. Link back to the original post. – Done
  4. List some brief excerpts where stories (anime, book, movie – anything is fine) failed to launch due to a missing call to action. As many as you want. Readers can then try and guess the story in the comments!
  5. Nominate 3 other blogs to continue the tag!

Below are my story excerpts. Have a guess in the comments at what you think they are, I’ll tell you now that half of them are anime series and half aren’t just to keep things interesting. I’ll include who I’m tagging at the bottom of the post. Have fun everyone!

Story 1:

A hard-working and handy student decides cleaning the dojo can wait until tomorrow and decides to go home for the evening. His life remains uneventful and his dreams of being a hero go unfulfilled.

Story 2:

After leaving the theatre early, a doctor, his wife and son decide to call their butler to pick them up rather than wander down a dark alley. They make it home safely and their son grows up to be a happy and well-adjusted young man, even though the city is only getting worse and worse.

Story 3:

A schoolgirl comes across a mysterious book in her dad’s basement library and doesn’t open it. She goes on to have a perfect and adorable life, but is yet to meet her one true love.

Story 4:

Astronauts discover a strange capsule on the moon. Showing a remarkable amount of genre-savvy they decide to leave well enough alone and don’t open it.

Story 5:

After a stressful day of work an office worker decides to have a few drinks before heading home on the train. Luckily she has enough self-control to stop herself getting too drunk and doesn’t miss her stop on the way home. She continues her lonely life.

Story 6:

Two school teachers decide the odd behaviour of their new student is none of their business and don’t follow her home one night. A few weeks later the girl mysteriously disappears never to be seen again.

That’s it, hope you all have fun and bonus points to anyone that gets number 6.

I’ll be tagging:

alsmangablog – Also I promise I’ll get to your magical girl tag at some point, I’ve been having a bit of trouble getting the designs right.

Oh, if only a story actually went like this!
It’d be extraordinarily boring, but very unique and contradictorily interesting to read 😆

Someone somewhere must have had the idea to write a story where nothing happens before. It probably won’t have sold well but other people have to have had that idea right?

    2 – Batman
    5 – Kobayashi-san

Not sure about the rest, although some of them sound very familiar!

Correct! I’m surprised no one’s got number 1 yet, but I tried to keep everything as vague as possible so maybe I went too vague.

This is a very interesting idea!

Is #4 Power Rangers and #3 Card Captor Sakura?

I got 2, 4, and 6. Batman, Power Rangers, and Doctor Who. I only saw the last and first episodes (in that order) of the original Card Captor Sakura, and that was looooong ago, so I’d have never gotten that one. I never would have guessed Kobayashi-san for 5, but, in my defense, that anime does not *start out* by showing her meeting a dragon because she got too drunk. 😉 As for number one… either I have not encountered that one, or I’m going to be beating my head once someone figures it out, I think.

Congrats I’m glad someone finally got Doctor Who. I’m surprised no one’s got number one yet, it’s a fairly well known series.

I’ll also admit I was being sneaky with Kobayashi.

        Heh, sneaky indeed.

Seriously, though, I’m not even getting anything off google about a boy cleaning a dojo.

Maybe that’s too specific a detail, I’d suggest thinking about where this dojo might be and also focus more on the ‘dreams of being a hero’ part.

Heh, there’s almost always “dreams of being a hero” involved, so it doesn’t narrow things down that much, ya know? As for where a dojo is, it would have to be outside Japan to be distinct, so my next guess would be America, and I am not remembering a story with an American boy’s journey to heroism beginning with cleaning a dojo. In short: I got nothin! 😛

I’m sure someone will get it eventually. If not I can post up the answers in a month or two, just for the sake of the people that want to know.
